Particles in Moroccan Darija

1.(m3a)

Uses:

• With People: Indicates being together with a person or living creature.

  • Example:

    • “Ana kanmchi l-sinima m3a baba.” (I go to the cinema with my dad.)

    • “Ana kanmchi l-supermarchi m3a 5ti.” (I go to the supermarket with my sister.)

• With Time: Used when referring to specific clock times.

  • Example:

    • “Ana kanmchi l-khedma m3a 10.” (I go to work at ten.)

    • “Ana kanmchi l-dar m3a 8.” (I go home at eight.)

Note: For periods without a specific time, use “fi.”

• Example:

  • “Ana kanmchi l-khedma fi l-sbah.” (I go to work in the morning.)

• Meaning: Indicates direction towards a person or living creature.

• Example:

  • Helping:

    • Psychological help:

      • Example: “Ana kan3ti kado L Sa7bi.” (I give a gift to my friend.)

    • Physical help:

      • Example: “Ana kan3ti m3l9a L khti.” (I give a spoon to my sister.)

  • From…to:

    • Example: “Ana kan5dm men 8 L 10.” (I work from 8 to 10.)

• Meaning: Generally means “inside.”

Types of “Inside”:

1. Inside a Space:

   • Example:

     • “Ana kan3l9 tSwira fi l7yT.” (I hang a picture on the wall.)

2. Inside an Object:

   • Example:

     • “Ana kandir telfon fi Sac .” (I put my phone in the bag.)

3. Inside a Period of Time:

   • Example:

     • “Ana kansafr L Maghrib fi Sayf .” (I travel to Morocco in the summer.

7. (O)

• Meaning: Generally means “And.”

  Example:

  • “mra kat7T stilo o wr9a fo9 Tbla  .” (“The woman puts a pen and paper on the table.”)
