Classical Arabic – Cours 4: Understanding Grammar Basics (Copy 1)

 Momo is going to the man.
The girl is taking a fork from the kitchen.
The woman is giving the pot to the mouse.


To conjugate verbs in the present tense, we use the following formulation:

  • Ana: ka + n + [infinitive]
  • Nta: ka + t + [infinitive]
  • Nti: ka + t + [infinitive] + i (the “i” is used when speaking directly to a woman)
  • Howa: ka + y + [infinitive]
  • Hiya: ka + t + [infinitive]
  • 7na: ka + n + [infinitive] + o (the “o” is used for the plural)
  • Ntoma: ka + t + [infinitive] + o (the “o” is used for the plural)
  • Homa: ka + y + [infinitive] + o (the “o” is used for the plural)
